55% Trebbiano di Soave 45% Garganega
Almond blossom and green apple aromas develop into a lively wine with subtle marzipan and honey.
This wine is pale lemon in colour, with aromas of almond blossom and green apples. It is lively and crisp on the palate with a touch of marzipan and honey from the Garganega. It displays citrus flavours on the finish.
The Garganega grapes for this wine were grown on hillside sites situated next to the Soave zone in the Val d'Alpone. The vineyards have excellent south east exposure with soils of volcanic origin. The hillside vineyards give the fruit great concentration. The Trebbiano is all Trebbiano di Soave from spalliera-trained vines, producing grapes with lovely aromatic depth.
The grapes were hand harvested, destemmed and crushed then pumped to the press without the addition of sulphur. The juice was chilled immediately and naturally settled. Cultured yeasts were added to initiate fermentation, which took place at around 14°C in order to retain freshness and fruit flavours. The wine was bottled young to preserve fresh fruit character.
These wines are made by Matt Thomson at the Cantina di Monteforte. Verona's 'Ponte Pietra' (stone bridge) dates back to Roman times, although vines have been planted on the hills outside of Verona for much longer than this bridge has spanned the Adige River.
